Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard. O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South.

See the Events at the Cliffs page for information on guided tours of the cliff side conducted daily by the Cliffs of Moher Rangers.

Kylemore Abbey & Walled Gardens

Kylemore Castle, built in 1868, is one of the great baronial-style Castles remaining in Ireland. In 1920, the Castle was turned into an Abbey when it was purchased by the Irish Benedictine nuns. Visitors to the three reception rooms in the Abbey are touched by its history steeped in romance and tragedy.
Visitors are also welcome to the recently-restored neo-Gothic church (circa 1871), Mausoleum, Restaurant and Craft Shop. A complimentary shuttle bus will take visitors to the beautifully restored Victorian Walled Gardens.

Aran Islands

The Aran Islands are richly unique. Located in the heart of Galway Bay, the Aran Islands offer visitors a glimpse into a way of life that has long since disappeared from most of the county. The Islands' raw beauty and charm leaves visitors longing to return for breath-taking scenery and historical sites like ecclesiastical ruins from early Christian times, medieval castles, cliffs, prehistoric stone forts (including the famous Dún Aonghasa ring fort). The Islands have many sandy beaches, clean air, unique flora and fauna and a rich folklore. The Islanders continue to speak in the Irish native tongue with Gaelic spoken as the first language. The Islands themselves are an outdoor museum of artifacts of religous and cultural importance. The three Aran Islands, Inis Mór (Big Island), Inis Meáin (Middle island) and Inis Oírr (East island) are situated in a north westerly south easterly direction at the mouth of Galway Bay, Ireland.

Connemara Smokehouse

The Connemara Smokehouse specialises in producing wild and organic salmon. As Connemara's longest established Smokehouse, this is a fascinating location to visit, take a tour and purchase a great array of traditionally hand-prepared seafood products. The tour takes about 1 hour.
Located right on the water's edge at Bunowen Pier.

Ailwee Caves

In the heart of the Burren, lies one of the oldest caves in Ireland. This cave was formed by the glacial melt waters of an early ice age. The erosive power of the waters carved out an subterranean river deep underneath Aillwee mountain. This river has subsided since the last ice age, leaving behind one of Ireland's most stunning caves.
A walk up Aillwee Mountain will reveal spectacular views of the fertile valley below, Galway Bay, and the Connemara Mountains beyond. The slopes below Aillwee Cave are home to one of the Burren's unique Hazel Woods. Take a stroll along the woodland trail and discover our examples of prehistoric dwellings and a charcoal kiln. These woods are maintained to preserve and encourage the natural flora and fauna of the area. Aillwee Cave is open all year round. Tour times are as follows: 10:00 to 17:30 daily 10:00 to 18:30 during July and August.
